Paleokastritsa: A Glimpse into Corfu's Coastal Paradise and Historic Wonders
Paleokastritsa is arguably the most famous picturesque village of the island of Corfu located approximately 30 minutes away northwest of Corfu Town. The word Paleokastritsa literally means old fortress and comes from the old castle that on the top of the hill above Paleokastritsa called Angelokastro. After witnessing the beautiful bays with the crystal clear blue waters we will visit the Monastery of Virgin Mary which just above the main beach where you can also enjoy the magnificent views around it. You will have the chance to take a boat trip and visit the amazing Paradise beaches that are located around the area and are only accessible by the sea.
Lakones and Angelokastro: Capturing the Essence of Corfu from Above
Will continue our trip at the top of the hill above Paleokastritsa to the village of Lakones a traditional Corfu village with narrow road and an amazing view of all the Paleokastritsa area, you can take amazing photos and try the homemade ice cream at one of the cafes.
Our last stop will be the famous Angelokastro an amazing Byzantine castle situated 300 meters above sea at a very steep slope is well worth visiting. Overlooking the whole Paleokastritsa area historically was a unique strategic spot that was made for defence against enemies like pirates and got its name from the Angels Michael and Gabriel to get to the top there’s about 10 minutes walking the uphill steps and the views from the top are mesmerising.
